Biography of Elder Vincent Ekemezie Obi

Early Life and Family Background
Elder Vincent Ekemezie Obi was born on August 12, 1955, into the family of the late Mr. Dickson Orji Obi and Mrs. Mgborie Orji. He was the fifth child in a nurturing household, loved by his siblings, neighbors, and peers. As a young boy growing up in Amaeke, he displayed remarkable energy and an entrepreneurial spirit that would shape his future.

Education and Early Ventures
Vincent began his education at Umuaku Primary School and later proceeded to Nkwagu Secondary School. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, he had to leave secondary school early and enter the workforce. Undeterred by this setback, he undertook “oru ego” (hired labor) in Akawa, Umuawa, and neighboring towns to support himself and gain valuable life experience. His first formal trade was learned in Amuda Isuochi under the guidance of Mr. Mba. After completing his apprenticeship and being settled, he returned to Umuaku to start his own provision store, laying the foundation for his future success.

Marriage and Family
In 1979, Vincent married his devoted wife, Miss Helen Dibunma Uche (now Mrs. Helen Dibunma Obi) from Umudi in Isiochi. Their union was blessed with nine children—seven daughters and two sons—and, in time, many grandchildren followed. Known for his strong family values, Vincent was a loving husband and a devoted father who believed in the importance of education and moral upbringing.

Return to Education and Church Involvement
Despite leaving formal education early, Vincent’s passion for learning never waned. He went on to earn a diploma in Secretarial Studies and became an active member of the Assemblies of God Church in 1982. Over the years, he served in multiple roles, including Church Treasurer, Deacon, Secretary, Sunday School Superintendent, Marriage Committee Member, and Chairman of the Church Building Committee. He also attended Learnmen College and received a certificate from the Assemblies of God Church in Sapele. In his hometown, Amaeke Autonomous Community, he was one of the pioneer members of the Assemblies of God Church, contributing wholeheartedly to its growth.

Business Growth and Relocation to Warri
In 2007, Vincent moved with his family to Warri in Delta State. His business endeavors continued to thrive, and he remained committed to serving others. Known for his hospitality, he welcomed people from all backgrounds into his home. A man of peace and humility, he became a trusted adviser and an inspiration to youths in his community.

Community Leadership and Achievements
In 2009, the people of Amaeke Autonomous Community elected Vincent as their President General (PG). During his tenure, he championed critical development projects such as the electrification of the community and the installation of a communal borehole. His unwavering commitment to peace and unity earned him the affectionate nickname “PG Apparatus.” The impact of his leadership was so profound that he was unanimously granted an extension to continue his good work.

Personal Passions and Legacy
Throughout his life, Vincent found joy in music, dancing, and spending quality time in prayer and devotion with his wife, children, and grandchildren. A man of steadfast faith, he consistently encouraged others to trust in God and give generously. His life was marked by love, resilience, and service to both his family and community.
